Jabber Developer's Handbook is an excellent guide for developing components and services for Jabber. Moore and Wright provide detailed information and models that describe how components interact via XML with a Jabber server, and the authors extend on this to provide examples, with Java code, for extending Jabber services. The authors also provide a comprehensive overview of available Jabber libraries in addition to descriptions of other protocols, such as AIML and JXTA, with which Jabber might be used. Jabber Developer's Handbook is available from Sams Publishing.
